Messing About on the River
The Rivertime Boat Trust has a new day boat based in Henley for use by disabled and disadvantaged children and adults. 'Rivertime' was launched on Friday 13 June 2008, she is a new build Norfolk Broads Cruiser measuring 43ft by 12ft and is equipped with a ramp, wheelchair lift and disabled toilet.
She is insured to carry a maximum of 12 passengers including carers (with a max of 5 wheelchairs) and operates from different moorings along the Thames between Oxford and Windsor but spends most of her time based at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley. Many organisations have hired the boat for the day, parties can visit the museum galleries and wonderful Wind in the Willows exhibition before sailing off for the day. The Rivertime Boat Trust has gone from strength to strength thanks to the invaluable help and support of many organisations, individuals and advisors. We now have 34 enthusiastic volunteers who help to crew the boat, 12 of which are qualified to skipper. During the 2009 season the boat went out 132 times carrying 1152 passengers of which 156 were in wheelchairs.
