ROSE PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The title for this year’s Rose Photographic Competition is “The rose is our inspiration.   What is yours?”  Each entry will require a caption of up to a maximum of 200 characters describing why it is your inspiration.

The photograph and accompanying caption that the final judges declare the overall winner will be displayed at the Rose Photographic Competition Reception to be held at the Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge on Thursday 12 January, together with the photograph and captions of the runners up.  The overall winner will be invited to attend an OK! photo shoot and every entrant will be entered into a draw to win a fantastic prize. The runners up will also receive photography inspired prizes.  Please read the rules before entering.

ROSE PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 2011: RULES

1.       This competition is only open to students in the age range 16 to 19 in the UK. To qualify at either end of the age range, students must either be 16 at 12.01 am on Sunday 18 September 2011 or 19 up to 11.59 pm on Sunday 18 September 2011.

2.       Employees of the Sunday Express, OK! Magazine and Alexandra Rose Charities and their immediate families, their agents, trustees or anyone professionally associated with this activity may not participate in this competition.

3.       This competition runs from 18 September to 28 November 2011 and is open to UK residents only.

4.       Photographs entered must be taken in the UK.

5.       Entrants can submit as many photographs and captions as they like at a cost of £1 per entry.  Entries can be in colour or black and white.

6.       By submitting images to this competition, the entrant confirms that for each image submitted:

- They alone are the author of the image and that it is  their original work;
- They are the sole copyright holder;
- They have not licensed any rights in the image that conflict with the usage rights required by Alexandra Rose Charities (“ARC”);
- That it has not been a winning or shortlisted entry in any other competition; and
- They will be responsible for any claim made by any third party in respect of their entry 
- ARC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry that does not comply or which ARC has reason to believe does not comply with any of the above, even after the entry is submitted on the competition website.
- ARC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry in relation to which ARC receives a complaint

7.       Any images deemed inappropriate will be excluded from this competition.

8.       Copyright in all photographs submitted remains with the photographers who submitted them.  However if your entry is selected by ARC as a winning image, the entrant will give non-exclusive rights to ARC to use their name and the image in connection with the promotion of this competition.  The entrant also certifies that they hold the rights to grant such permission.  In addition the entrants’ moral rights are respected.  Whenever their image is published by ARC, they will be credited.  Failure to publish a credit due to error or oversight shall not be deemed a breach of this condition.   

9.       Winning images will be used in any promotional material or publicity connected to the Rose Photographic Competition and will credit the photographer.  ARC will retain free usage rights of the image for a maximum period of 24 months.

10.    The winner and runners up may be required to take part in or be involved in publicity surrounding the competition or ARC.

11.    The winner and runners up will be notified regarding image usage rights should ARC be approached by a third party with any commercial opportunities related to the additional usage of the image or images.

12.    All reasonable care will be taken in handling photos and digital files, but ARC will not assume any responsibility for their loss or damage.  All files will be retained by ARC and cannot be returned.

13.    Taxes, if any, on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winner and runners up.

14.    Prizes are as stated and no cash alternatives can be offered.  Prize value is correct at the time of going to press.  ARC has the right to substitute prizes for similar items of equal value or higher value if stated prizes are not available.  No money can be added to overall prizes.

15.    ARC shall not be liable for any failure to supply the prizes where such failure is caused by any supervening circumstances outside its control which amount to force majeure and which without the fault of either party renders performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.

16.    Reasonable efforts will be made to contact the winner(s).  If the winner(s) cannot be contacted, or are unable to comply with these Rules, Terms and Conditions, ARC reserves the right to offer the prize to the runner(s) up selected by the same judges.

17.    Confirmation of the prize will also be made in writing to the winner(s).

18.    Failure to respond and/or provide an address for delivery, or failure to meet the eligibility requirements may result in forfeiture of the prize(s).

19.    Where applicable, the decision of the judges is final based on the criteria set out in the Terms and Conditions of Entry and no correspondence will be entered into over this decision.

20.    The Competition may be modified or withdrawn at any time.

21.    The Promoter is Alexandra Rose Charities of 5 Mead Lane, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7DY. 

22.    A list of winners and runners up will be available on ARC’s website on 13 January 2012.  Only the first name and county of the winners and runners up will be disclosed.

23.    Failure to comply with and accept all of the preceding Rules, Terms and Conditions will disqualify any entry.

24.    These Rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales.  This competition is administered by Alexandra Rose Charities.

ENTRY TERMS & CONDITIONS:

1.       Entries for the Alexandra Rose Photographic Competition must be received no later than 11.59 pm on Monday 28 November 2011.  Entries received after this date and time will not be considered.

2.       Entrants must complete the online entry form. The contact fields on the internet entry form must be filled in correctly.  ARC cannot be held responsible for entries with incorrect contact details.

3.       As described under the Rules section, entrants can enter as many times as they like at a cost of £1 per time.  Payment is via micro PayPal on www.alexandrarosecharities.org.uk/photo-competition-2011

4.       Images must be submitted digitally by uploading to the Rose Photographic entry area on www.alexandrarosecharities.org.uk

5.       Where appropriate, entrants must be able to obtain a subject’s permission for inclusion within the images or their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured.  Entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.

6.       Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted and no feedback on any entry will be provided.

7.       ARC will only ever use personal details for the purposes of administering the competition. 

8.       All photographs and captions will be judged on the following criteria:

·         Originality

·         Technical Proficiency

·         Visual Impact

·         Composition

·         Caption

9.       The photographs and captions will be judged through the following process:

Stage One

A judging panel will review all entries based on the above criteria and those remaining will go through to the final round of judging due to take place by Monday 5 December 2011. 

Random photographic entries will be featured in the Sunday Express in December 2011.

Stage Two

A second panel of judges will then review all the entries remaining and the finalists will be announced on the ARC website on Tuesday 6 December 2011.  The decision of the panel of judges will be final.

The finalists will be contacted by a member of the ARC Administration team within a week after 5 December 2011.

Stage Three

All finalists will be invited to attend the Rose Photographic Competition Awards Reception to be held at the Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge on Thursday 12 January 2011 at 6.30 pm.  All final photographs will be displayed on the night and  on the ARC website as well as in the Sunday Express and OK! Magazine.
